I want to take this opportunity to welcome all my new students and their parents to my science class and team 7-3. This year will be an exciting one as we begin to explore new topics in Physical Science, new methods of study to help you become a more successful learner, expand your knowledge science inquiry, and prepare you for your educational science career at Oceanside High School. Part of this process will be accomplished through the use of this website. It is important to check back periodically through out the week to ensure you are receiving the most up to date information. Please be aware that this is a voluntary site designed by me to enhance your middle school experience.

BIOGRAPHY

I have been a science teacher at the Oceanside Middle School for 24 years. I helped originate the two year program in which I am entering my 11th two year cycle. It is a good program that allows the students to increase their personal goals of academic success without the transitioning of new teachers the following year. I have worked with many of the teachers in building and find that our staff is very cohesive and they enjoy being teachers. This is a very important ingredient to ensure the success of each student.

I have decided over the years that I wanted all of my students to be successful so to support this belief I have developed a very clear cut no nonsense approach to my classroom management. You will have already received a mailing outlining my classroom discipline plan, homework and grading policies. These were developed by both my former students and myself with the belief that a collaborated set of rules, rewards, and consequences would allow each student to decide the behaviors they wanted to exhibit in class. This program has always been successful and has allowed my students to learn in a safe environment.

WHY I USE A WEBSITE

Both parents and students have found my websites valuable while they progressed through the middle school. As you surf my site you will come across a plethora of information that will help you to become successful in my science class. All of my students should be aware that your parents will be able to monitor your progress in my class even though you may not want them to know what you are doing in school.

LETTER TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS

LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT YEAR

 Dear Parents/Guardians

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to the middle school and team seven-three.  It will be my  pleasure working with you towards the academic success of your child in my Science Class.

As you know parents/guardians are the most important people in a child’s life and we will be working together this year for the benefit of your child.  To achieve this goal I will need you to support my academic, homework and discipline efforts here at school.  In return, I will keep you informed about your child’s experiences and progress in my class.  With school and home working together, I know that your child can have his or her most successful school experience yet.  Please remember that it is very important to me that your child is successful.

To reach this goal I have posted two informational forms, one on my classroom discipline plan and the other my homework policy, which you can access using the tool bars at the beginning of this page.  Please read each one carefully and fully discuss it with your child.  This will ensure that there will be no confusion as to what will be expected this year.  Additionally, it will allow you to keep abreast of events that take place in my classroom and help answer any questions you may have.

I look forward to seeing you at back to school night.

Sincerely,

Mr. David Nudleman

Team 7-3

Homework Time Budget Plan (7th grade)

Take One Day At A Time and Live It To The Fullest!

Dear Students and Parents,

It has come to my attention over the years that some students become frustrated with regards to managing their time in completing homework. Since the homework assignments are given at the beginning of the week, it is important that students budget their time effectively. To help them out, I recommend the following strategies:

1. Do not try to complete all the assignments in one night, especially the night before it is due.

2. Reading, summary and essay writing homework should be broken down into two or more sessions. (Students always have at least four days to work on these assignments.)

3. The internal chapter questions (1-3 or 1-4) usually can be completed in one session.

4. The four-column vocabulary assignment should be completed in one session. However, if there are more than 15 terms, the student should break the assignment into two sessions.

5. The chapter review assignment should be broken down into two or more sessions. Students should not try to complete all the questions in one sitting.

6. There is usually at least one ticketed assignment in each homework block. The students are encouraged to use 10 bonus tickets in exchange for a free 100% on that assignment.

7. Students are encouraged to collect tickets during each class by participating in all class discussions and question/answer sessions. Additionally, students may collect tickets by following all directions during laboratory experiments or other interactive activities.

8. The students and I will discuss how to budget their homework time. Each homework session should be between 15 and 26 minutes in duration.

9. The three problems that surfaced during past discussions were as follows:

*The students felt that they were self-distracting at times.

*That there were too many distractions at home. (This seemed to lengthen the time it took to complete their homework assignments.)

* That they really did not want complete their homework and procrastinated until it was too late.

10. Students who are experiencing difficulty budgeting their time, completing their assignment, or are having difficulty with specific topics, should seek Extra Help on Tuesdays from 2:25 - 3:05 PM or 10 minutes after school on Monday Wednesday and or by appointment during lunch.  I will post any changes to extra help sessions as they occur.

11.  Homework Center is another option available for students who need help completing their assignments. This program will start during the second quarter.
